ANNAMAY McNally continues with her mum's-eye-view on life with a boisterous toddler.
The wee woman and her doting dad went on a bit of an adventure at the weekend.
As she has been feeling a little under the weather in the past week or more, the hubby thought he would treat his two year-old daughter to her first ever visit to the pet
shop.
Some time later - and with the hubby's wallet a little bit lighter - the pair arrived home armed with one red and silver, and one black goldfish, complete with a sparkly new bowl to swim around and a green plastic tree to keep them company.
Just the sight of the wee woman's face as she excitedly told me about her new 'fishies', was enough to have me beaming from ear to ear.
In fact, I surprised even myself, as someone who finds pets of any sort at most bearable, by the sheer delight I took in watching these shiny new additions to our family swim happily around the confines of their state-of-the-art home.
There's something strangely relaxing about watching two little 'fishies' exploring their surroundings and nibbling at their 'dinner'.
And, every couple of minutes, the wee woman would rush over to where the bowl stood on the kitchen worktop and marvel at her new-found friends.
Any visitor to our home over the weekend, also received an introduction to the new pets, and a grand tour of the fish bowl, with special focus on the green plastic tree.
Every night before bed, the wee woman would rush over to the fish bowl and fondly bid the 'fishies' a good night, and every morning when she woke up, it was the 'fishies' that were on her mind.
So you can imagine the sense of dismay felt by the hubby and I when we woke up bright and early yesterday morning, ready to face the start of another week at work.
With the hubby leading the way, the three of us made the journey to the kitchen, and it was only the hubby's swift "Uh-oh!", which stopped us in our tracks.
A mere three days after they had been introduced into the family fold, the two little 'fishies' had now become one little 'fishy'.
Fondly named 'Captain' and 'Chips' by the wee woman herself, the famous pair had now been reduced to Captain alone, who, it has to be said, seemed strangely content with swimming around the bowl by himself.
"Look, Daddy! Fishy sleeping!", was the wee woman's chirpy remark at the sight that greeted us yesterday morning.
Thankfully, she didn't seem to notice that one of her 'fishies' had gone where all good 'fishies' go - to the top of the bowl. The only thing which worries us now, though, is the dilemna we are suddenly faced with - do we try to explain why the 'fishy' has gone to sleep, or do we buy another black goldfish before she gets home?
