Court outburst added to sentence
A YOUNG man was given a 25% increase on his sentence after he shouted at a police officer in the East Tyrone Magistrates Court on Friday.
John Patrick Nixon, 20, from Fairgreen Park in Keady was in court after being charged with disorderly behaviour following an incident in Moy on August 19 2007.
Nixon, who is already serving a sentence at Maghaberry, was handed down a one month consecutive sentence by Magistrate, Mr John Meehan and grumbled loudly as he was taken back into custody.
He then turned to the public seating area and shouted at a police officer before making an offensive hand gesture and shouting, "Up the hoods."
Nixon was later returned to court where Mr Meehan increased his sentence by one week and said that his, "repeated offensive remarks and persistent disorder were a wilful insult to the court."
Nixon's solicitor said that his client was very regretful of his lack of composure and that he was sorry for his outburst which he said were "a couple of cheap shots."
