THE father of a Dungannon man left badly beaten in an attack on Sunday night has spoken of his horror at seeing his son in hospital.
Karl Colbert rushed from his Killyman Road home after hearing his son had been set upon by two foreign nationals while walking home at about 10pm.
"I spent most of Sunday night at his side in Craigavon hospital. No father should have to see his son
in that state", he said.
Gary Colbert suffered a broken jaw and nose, as well as a fractured cheekbone, while his friend, Jonathon Archer sustained a head injury. They were both released from hospital on Monday morning but are due further medical treatment.
Mr Colbert went on to warn that Dungannon had become 'lawless' and advised parents not to let their children walk the streets at night.
The Dungannon father said he believed the attack was 'unprovoked'.
"The foreign nationals first drove by the boys with one of then standing up through the sun-roof.
"According to eye-witnesses they looked to be high on drink or drugs, and must have drove back down Perry Street before attacking my son from behind.
"Fortunately a woman coming out of a building on the other side of the road, saw the whole attack and took their car number-plate down."
Mr Colbert said he wanted to publicise the incident so that parents were aware how dangerous the streets in the town have become.
"My advice is to use a taxi if you are going out at night. There are people out there who spend all weekend drinking and doing drugs and who have no respect for law and order", he claimed.
Police investigating the incident are looking for two Lithuanian men who were driving a red Ford jeep.
According to a police spokesperson, the attackers, one of whom was wearing a mustard and blue top, jumped out of their vehicle and began talking to the victims in Lithuanian before assaulting them.
In a separate incident on Saturday night a man was attacked outside Jordan's Bar by two Lithuanian men.
According to police the victim sustained a minor head injury and was taken to Craigavon Hospital.
In addition, police are investigating an attack on a Lithuanian woman by a group of five males, also believed to be Lithuanian.
Armed with a gun they forced entry to her home at Cedar Ridge on Sunday and demanded money.
According to police, they also threatened to break her windows. The gun was described as a black, long-barrelled hunting type.
The attackers drove a silver-coloured car.
Anyone who may have information about the incidents is asked to contact police in Dungannon 8775 2525.
