Health Trust plans will "will fail the most vulnerable in society"

SOCIAL workers who have built up long-standing relationships with some of the most vulnerable families in the Dungannon and surrounding areas, could be moved as far away as Newry under a new raft of proposals from the local Health Trust, the Tyrone Times has learnt.
According to Universi, the health workers' branch of the Independent Workers' Union (IWU), the proposals involve a team of nine staff from within the Armagh and Dungannon Health Trust and, if approved, will come into effect from September.
The union
has written to the Trust on behalf of the family support workers involved, but, as yet, has received no response to their call for the proposals to be stayed until proper consultation is achieved.
In its correspondence with the Trust, the union's spokeswoman, Patricia Campbell, says it is "deeply concerned" that the proposals will not only have a detrimental impact on the terms and conditions of its members' employment, but will also adversely affect the needs of vulnerable families under their care.
Speaking to the Tyrone Times, Patricia Campbell, President of the IWU in Ireland, said: "These proposals will, in effect, wipe out a whole team by relocating them to different areas. We know that some members are being asked to relocate as far as Newry, for example.
