HEALTH professionals and families whose loved ones have been affected by the devastating drug heroin, will be on the panel at a special information evening organised by Dungannon based alcohol and drugs awareness centre, Breakthru.
Breakthru, which provides a range of counselling and awareness services, has co-ordinated the event as entirely cross-community, open to all religions and nationalities.
Welcome leaflets to the event - scheduled for next Tuesday evening,July 29th -
have been printed and distributed in a number of languages, including English, Lithuanian, Portuguese and Polish.
In recent issues of the Tyrone Times, families from the Dungannon area revealed how their loved ones - often as young as 18 - are spiralling deeper and deeper into heroin addiction, routinely stealing from concerned relatives just to feed their crippling habit.
Two sisters demanded immediate action to tackle what they claim is an ever-increasing problem with the drug in the local area, and called for help to set up a support group for families in situations similar to their own.
The Breakthru evening has been organised to offer information, guidance and support to those affected by heroin in a number of ways.
In addition to a short presentation about the drug, and the experiences of living with heroin addiction, a question and answer session will also be held.
The event will commence at The Breakthru Centre, Killymeal Road, Dungannon, next Tuesday, July 29, at 7pm sharp. Refreshments will be provided. For further information on the event contact Bernie or Ciara on Tel: 87753228.
Translated versions of the welcome leaflet follow here. As a translation in Lithuanian was unavailable at the time of going to press, Breakthru has issued an invitation to all members of the community to attend and can provide further information by telephone if required.
