Masked gunman raids Post Office

A MASKED gunman tried to smash through a door during an armed raid on a Post Office at Derrylee.
The robber, who was armed with a sawn-off shotgun, left empty-handed after failing to gain entry to the Post Office.

He was one of two men travelling in a blue Peugeot which pulled into the car park around 11am last Wednesday morning.

He entere
d the premises but failed to gain access through a secure doorway.

After shouting at staff, he used the butt of his gun to smash the its window, but still was unable to gain entry.

The robber eventually left empty-handed.

He is described as 6ft tall, of slim build, and was wearing a navy-coloured jogging suit, a black balaclava and gloves.

Police later recovered a burnt-out Peugeot 405, registration TJI 7769, in a laneway off Derrylee Road.

Searches of the area also led to a pair of gloves being recovered. They have been taken away for forensic examination.

Detectives want to hear from anyone who saw the blue Peugeot 405 in the area on Tuesday or Wednesday, or saw any other vehicles parked off the Derrylee Road on Wednesday morning.
