THE Chairman of Coalisland Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership Councillor Francis Molloy endorses the new artwork in Coalisland Town Centre. These new murals depict the heritage of Coalisland town centre and its inhabitants heralding a fresh new image of hope for the town. The successful project has been financed by Reimaging Communities Consortium, led by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, and supported by Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council as part of the Re-Imaging Communities progr
Councillor Molloy said “these murals will link the historical nature of the old and the industrial past of Coalisland. It will further link with the current environmental improvement scheme to enahnce shop fronts within the town centre. This re-imagi
ng programme will help to bring about a brighter, better future for Coalisland”

The artist Deborah Malcomson stated “she was delighted to be given this opportunity to get involved in the Coalisland Re-Imaging Communities Project and gave special thanks for all the support given to her by the Coalisland Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership, St Joseph’s College, Primate Dixon, Ogras Youth Club and Craic Theatre. It has been a privilege to work with the schools and groups from the town and the end result is a credit to all involved”.

The Re-imaging Communities Programme places artists in the heart of communities to work with local people in urban and rural areas to focus on positive ways to express who they are and what culture means to them artistically and creatively. The programme encourages the creation of vibrant and attractive shared public space through the use of the creative arts in the public realm, which will celebrate life, enhance the physical and natural environment and help people feel part of the community in which they live. Re-imaging communities is an integral element of Neighbourhood Renewal

Neighbourhood Renewal harnesses the work of all Government Departments, local public services, the community and private and voluntary sectors to tackle deprivation and drive through improvements.

The Coalisland Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership consists of members representing residents from the Coalisland Residents Forum and members from a wide range of statutory bodies. The Partnership has created Action Plans to implement projects and programmes to improve the quality of life of those living in the Coalisland Neighbourhood Renewal Areas.
