THIEVES have used a mechanical digger to ram-raid a cash machine at a Dungannon Filling Station.
Detectives in the town are appealing for information after the digger, which was stolen from a nearby roadworks site, demolished a wall of the M1 filling station on the A4.
Police believe the target was a cash machine at the premises, however, due t
o the extent of damage caused to the wall of the building, it has not yet been established whether the machine was stolen.
The incident happened at about 3.30am on Monday. The criminals abandoned the tracked mechanical digger at the scene and fled.
Last September there were two similar ram-raids at Tyrone filling stations, with the thieves failing to extract the machines.
Premises at Garvaghey and Carrickmore were attacked in the space of a fortnight, but on both occasions police found the cash machines buried in rubble.
Anyone who noticed the digger in the forecourt of the garage or any other vehicles nearby is asked to contact police.
The number to call is 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
At the time of going to Press police have indicated that the cash machine has been recovered at the premises.
