The McKenna Cup is not about winning silverware, it's about scrutinising what's available to managers in terms of new blood - and, for Tyrone, it's a particularly exciting time, says for former county team assistant manager Sean Canavan.
"For county managers, bringing home the McKenna Cup would be nice. But it's way down their list of priorities as far as trophies are concerned. None of them will be too annoyed at not winning the competition" said the Ardboe assistant boss.
"I'm not sure what the universities get out of it, given that they are not allowed to play freshers - which is an absurd rule - and they can't even have home advantage."
