The visitors led 1-6 to 1-4 at halftime thanks to an early Leo Meenan goal from the penalty spot. Cookstown responded with a goal of their own through John Gilmore but, when Clogher official Eugene McConnell dismissed midfielder Gary Fitzpatrick for
a second yellow card offence, the Fr Rocks were up against it.
Damian Meenan and Raymond Mulgrew brought their individual hauls to three points each for the opposing sides but a Sean O'Kane effort kept the visitors just in front.
Barry Mulligan and Ciaran Clarke then exchanged points before Hughes kept his cool to direct that late pressure kick between the posts to leave Cookstown with three points out of a possible four from their first two outings.
Cookstown scorers – John Gilmore 1-1, Raymond Mulgrew 0-3, Martin Murray 0-2, Barry Mulligan 0-2, Gary Fitzpatrick 0-1, Barry Hughes 0-1

Omagh 1-11 Kildress 0-13
Three points in the final eight minutes ensured that Omagh picked up the home win in a close encounter with Kildress on Wednesday.
The Wolfe Tones began in whirlwind fashion as they raced into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead by the end of the opening quarter, with Martin Grimes and Frank McGurk scoring a brace each.
A superb individual goal from Conor McMahon coupled with points from Jason McAnula and Gary Taggart left it all to play for in the second half.
The second period was only two minutes old when Omagh centre half back Michael Gallagher was red-carded by referee Mickey Hughes and Wolfe Tones took full advantage with scores from Paul O'Neill, McGurk and Des Treacy.
Back came the St.Endas, with Conor O'Donnell levelling matters before Taggart and a mammoth Joe McMahon effort ensured victory, Treacy's last gasp free for Kildress skimming the bar on its way over.

Killyman 0-9 Errigal Ciaran 1-15
Killyman may have slipped to a double scores defeat at the hands of Errigal Ciaran, but they will take heart from the fact that they played well for long spells with the visitors effectively winning the game with a superb second quarter display.
During that time they landed eight points, with Damian McDermott taking his tally to four and attacking half back duo Ciaran McGinley and Davy Harte matching that total between them.
The St.Marys had started well and a couple of Eddie Holland points saw them only trail 0-5 to 0-3 before that scoring burst enabled the visitors to establish an eight point interval lead.
In the third quarter Killyman outscored the visitors four points to one with Paul McVeigh and Conor Boyle grabbing a brace each but the damage had been done and a Ronan McRory goal ten minutes from time put a better look on the scoreboard for the visitors

Errigal Ciaran scorers – Ronan McRory 1-2, Damian McDermott 0-4, Ciaran McGinley 0-2, Davy Harte 0-2, Barry Canavan 0-2, Enda McGinley 0-1, Caolan Tierney 0-1, Mark Loughran 0-1
Killyclogher 1-12 Galbally 1-6
Killyclogher picked up their first brace when they had a comfortable victory over a disappointing Galbally side that never got going.
The Pearses made a promising start with two early Paul Rafferty points but after Leo Meenan slotted home a sixth minute penalty the home side never trailed again.
Simon O'Neill and the Meenans Leo and Damian added points with Blaine Nugent responding for Galbally before the visitors were thrown a lifeline in first half injury time when Rafferty grabbed a goal after a Damian McCrory shot had come back of the post.
That left the Pearses only two in arrears at the break but they never scored again until a minute from time in a poor second half display.
Killyclogher made the most of the opportunities that came their way with the Meenans and Ryan McAleer accounting for their five second half points.
Killyclogher scorers – Leo Meenan 1-7, Damian Meenan 0-3, Simon O'Neill 0-1, Ryan McAleer 0-1
Galbally scorers – Paul Rafferty 1-5, Blaine Nugent 0-1
Aghyaran 1-8 Dromore 1-10
The woodwork saved county champions Dromore's unbeaten start to the season and denied Aghyaran their first points of the season on a night when their efforts deserved to take something.
With a minute to go Jason Gallen was brought down by St.Dympnas keeper Peter Ward for a penalty but Anthony Devine's well hit shot struck the post and was cleared.
The visitors had got off to a dream start as for the second game running young Ciaran McCoy found the net after only three minutes.
Colm McCullagh chipped in with a trio of frees but the St.Davogs stayed in contention through scores from Devine, Brian McHugh and Martin Penrose.
Caolan Dolan and Raymond McGoldrick exchanged points on the restart before Penrose put his side in front with a well taken goal.
Dromore responded with two points each from McCullagh and Eoin McCusker to regain the advantage but required an element of good fortune right at the end

Ardboe 1-13 Donaghmore 1-11
Ardboe went into this game protecting a one hundred per cent record, while Donaghmore were chasing their first win and that remains the same - although after just twenty minutes that looked all set to change.
That's because the St.Patricks were rampant as they led 1-6 to 0-2 with Richard Hetherington getting their goal and Niall McCaul and Shane Mulgrew landing five points between them.
Ardboe fought back before the break with Kyle Coney and Frank McGuigan sharing their six first half points.
Five minutes into the second half a Coney shot was half blocked by Anthony Fulton but went into the net before a Martin McKeown point levelled matters.
Colin McNally and substitute Stephen McDermott had Donaghmore points, but it was the Rossas who ended the stronger with John McConville, McGuigan and Coney all on target
Ardboe scorers – Kyle Coney 1-5, Frank McGuigan 0-6, Martin McKeown 0-1, John McConville 0-1
Donaghmore scorers – Richard Hetherington 1-1, Niall McCaul 0-3, Shane Mulgrew 0-3, Kelvin Hughes 0-1, Colin McNally 0-1, Stephen McDermott 0-1, Daniel Grimes 0-1
Loughmacrory 1-10 Eglish 0-12
With the game deep into injury time Eglish looked set for victory but the old adage that a two point lead is a very vulnerable one was never more true than here as Loughmacrory struck for a goal from midfielder Mark McCullagh to break the visitors' hearts.
The home side led 0-8 to 0-5 at halftime with Ronan Ward responsible for five of their points, Michael Jordan with a couple for Eglish.
The St.Patricks fought back after the break and two points each from Jordan and half back Mark Gallagher helped them get back on level terms going into the closing stages of the game.
Emmett Donaghy and Caolan Daly exchanged points from frees before Jordan and Gallagher both struck again as they entered injury time.
Loughmacrory had one last attack though and when a high ball into the Eglish box broke to McCullagh he fired past Stephen Colton for a dramatic winning goal
Loughmacrory scorers – Ronan Ward 0-6, Mark McCullagh 1-0, Emmett Donaghy 0-2, Enda Ward 0-1, Ciaran Ward 0-1
Eglish scorers – Michael Jordan 0-5, Mark Gallagher 0-3, Caolan Daly 0-2, Ryan McKenna 0-1, Gary Daly 0-1
Carrickmore 0-9 Cookstown 0-4
Cookstown were well in contention here at halftime as they only trailed by the minimum margin; but they didn't score again until injury time at the end of the game and that's the reason why they lost their unbeaten record at the home of league leaders Carrickmore.
The Fr Rocks began brightly with a couple of early points through Daire Cummings and John Gilmore as Carrickmore took twenty minutes to open their account via Kevin McNally.
The St.Colmcilles still managed to shade the first half however with Brendan Martin and Mark Donnelly both splitting the posts.
In the first attack of the second half Colm McGurk ran through from his own half back line to land a superb individual score and, after that, the St.Colmcilles started to ease clear with Donnelly, McNally and midfielder Conor Gormley all adding to their total before Barry Hughes broke the Fr Rocks second half scoring duck two minutes into time added on.
Carrickmore scorers – Mark Donnelly 0-3, Kevin McNally 0-2, Brendan McCartan 0-1, Benny Martin 0-1, Colm McGurk 0-1, Conor Gormley 0-1
Cookstown scorers – Barry Hughes 0-1, Daire Cummings 0-1, John Gilmore 0-1, Raymond Mulgrew 0-1
