Dungannon proved on Saturday that the 35-11 defeat in the AIL was reversible when they clashed with Ballynahinch for a fourth time this season.
At Stevenson Park it was Dungannon who were quickest out of the traps to take and keep control in the opening half that earned them a deserved 14-0 lead at the break. Early in the second half the visitors raised their game and were rewarded with a penalty.
Dungannon responded with a third seven pointer before the County Down men registered a consolation try three minutes from time.
The 21-10 win was no less than the home side deserved and they can now look forward to the second round draw in a rather open Senior Cup. In last year's final Ballynahinch stormed to victory over Ballymena but there will be two different sides at Ravenhill this time around as Belfast Harlequins edged out the latter, 24-21.
Dungannon kicked off and were soon into action with the pack mauling the visitors into their own half. Good work by the front row of Glen Sinnamon, Richard Carleton and Mark Farquhar paved the way for Timmy Smith to break clear of a maul before running 20 metres to score at the posts on the 3rd minute. James Shiells added the simple extras to put Dungannon 7 points clear.
