You can now enter the 24th annual Greencastle Five Mile Road Race which will be held on Boxing Day to raise funds for leading local cancer charity, the Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF).
This year’s event aims to be bigger and better than ever as the race will celebrate the beginning of ’25 Years Running’ in 2010 and for the first time there will be a wheel chair race starting at 12.50pm. The walk will start at 11am from the Communit
y Centre with the run beginning at 1pm sharp.
You can now enter online at www.greencastle5.com for £10 which will secure your timing chip, race t-shirt, sports pack and post race refreshment. You will also be allocated your race number which can be collected on the day. All pre-registered entries will automatically be entered into a draw to win a weekend for two at the K-Club in Co. Kildare worth 3,000 Euro! Second prize is two tickets to any of Flybe’s UK destinations.
Neill Grainger from UCF said, “This is a big event on the sporting calendar and we hope that people will be motivated to pre-register online and be in with a chance to win a top prize. We would encourage walkers to get active and work up an appetite by taking part. The run is open to all levels of ability so we hope people will put their best foot forward and raise funds for UCF this Christmas. And remember you don’t have to pre-register – all participants for the wheelchair race, walk and run can enter on the day from 9am – 12.30pm.
“Special thanks to Oliver McCullagh, Race Director and his team for organising the road race. The money raised from this event will help local people who have been affected by cancer. In Northern Ireland one in three people will develop cancer during their lifetime and around 10,700 people are newly diagnosed every year. Our work is only possible due to the generosity of local people who raise almost all the £4m needed annually to provide our care and support services, free of charge, to cancer patients, carers and their family in Northern Ireland.”
