Dungannon won the Omagh Sevens in style at Mellon Park on Saturday.
Following convincing wins over Southport, The Mexicans and Limerick Titans, Dungannon met Ballynahinch in the semi-final. It was a close encounter before the Down men were edged out 14-12. In the final Dungannon beat Ballymena 37-7 to lift the Campbell Cup and complete a 'good day at the office'.
The only down side was an ankle injury sustained by skipper, Jamie Turkington. Team manager, Bill Brown was full of praise for the entire squad especially the young Dilworth boys, Angus Taavo and Andrew Gardner.
Dungannon Squad: Jamie Turkington (C
aptain), Angus Taavo, Andrew Gardner, Martin Boyd, Neville Magee, Derek Hall, Mark Riddell, Melvin Ferry, Dale Black, Darren Simpson, David Parkhill.
Next weekend Sevens action switches to Carrickfergus and many Dungannon players will be involved in that.
It all starts with the U20 tournament on Friday night and then on Saturday a Dungannon team under the name 'The Graduates' form one of thirty teams in the Guinness Open. Also in the same section are the Ulster Exiles managed by Dungannon's Mark Henderson. In Sunday's Manvik Premier Dungannon face tough opposition in the form of DHL Irish Exiles and Samurai International.
Dates for the diary

Friday 2nd May………..Dungannon RFC AGM (8 pm)

Friday 9th May ………..Dungannon Club Dinner. Guest speaker will be Dungannon's own Stewart McKinney. McKinney was capped 25 times for Ireland between from 1972 - 1978. He also toured South Africa with the unbeaten Lions in 1974.
Thursday 15th May……..Guiness Ulster Rugby awards at La Mon House. Dungannon have two nominees this year with David Pollock in the frame for 'Ulster Young Player of the Year' while Rugby chairman, David Wishart runs for the Dorrington-Faulkner prize.
Wednesday 21st May…….Darren Clarke Golf Classic at Dungannon Golf Club.
High profile speaker, Bob 'The cat' Bevan was a huge success at the Club's 'Sportsmans Dinner' in the Europa Hotel on Saturday night. Event organiser, Billy Boles was lucky to get a speaker of his calibre and he had the audience in stitches for a solid half hour. A word of praise too for UTV Sport's presenter, Adrian Logan who, once again, acted as MC ensuring that the evening went with a swing. Well done too to auctioneer, Richard Bell who put such notable items as a German cottage and an Irish racehorse under the hammer. Speaking of horses, in the ballot one lucky Dungannon lady, Angela Gill, won a pair of corporate hospitality tickets for Down Royal.
