Choral Society welcomes West End star

ONE of the largest audiences in recent years enjoyed Dungannon Choral Society’s ‘Christmas Celebration’ in St Anne’s Church recently.

The Rector, Andrew Forster, welcomed the choir, the Mayor, and the audience to the parish church, and said it was good to begin the Christmas Season with a reminder of the real meaning of Christmas.

Under their Conductor, Meta Bell MBE, and accompanied by Susan Stewart, the Choral Society performed a wide range of Christmas music, and many in the audience felt it was one of the best performances by the Society in recent years.

Meta introduced Fra Fee, the guest soloist, saying that he had made a name for himself in musical theatre in London, Dublin and Belfast, and had flown into the province earlier in the day for the evening performance. Fra thanked Meta for her very warm welcome, and said that he owed a lot to the late Betty Alexander, his first music teacher, and to Meta Bell and the Choral Society, who had welcomed him as a member when he was in his teens, and had allowed him to perform at their concerts.

He was delighted to be working with them again, and said he was impressed with the performance of the choir. Fra enthralled and moved the audience with his fine tenor voice, and received a well deserved standing ovation after his final solo.

At the supper afterwards, Anthea Chalkley, Chairperson, thanked the choir, the soloist, Meta Bell the conductor, and Susan Stewart the Accompanist, for all their hard work, that had made such a lovely evening’s entertainment possible.

She also thanked the Mayor and Dungannon Council for their support, and all those who had helped in any way to make the evening such a success.

She reminded everybody that when they got their new diaries, they should make a note of the date of the Spring Concert, which would be held on Thursday 11th April 2013 in Dungannon Royal School.
