Dungannon students take part in enterprise fair

YOUNG ADULTS from Dungannon joined students from across Northern Ireland at Rushmere Shopping Centre recently to sell their products as part of the Young Enterprise Northern Ireland Company, Team and QuickStart Programmes.

Krafty Knits’ members Eileen McDonald, Kim Wilson and Teresa Bell were selling handmade puppets, hairbands and decorative clips.

The trade fair, which was supported by the Department of Education and Ulster Bank, had prizes for entrepreneurial effort sponsored by Rushmere Shopping Centre, Moy Park and Newry firm FPM Accountancy.

Noreen McComiskey, Learning Disability Specialist Services Manager at the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, welcomed the opportunity to attend the fair.

“The representatives from the ARC and Krafty Knits were able to showcase their creative talents at the fair and by attending, they are building their confidence and communication skills as they interact with the public.

“The Trust is pleased to be working in partnership with the programmes, Department of Education, and the other public and private sector organisations,” said Noreen.

Joanne Mallon, Development Manager at Young Enterprise Northern Ireland, added: “Young Enterprise is thrilled that so many students are participating in this year’s Trade Fairs.

“Today more than ever, there is a need for our future workforce to ‘make jobs’ rather than ‘take jobs’. Entrepreneurship education is a vital contribution to this region’s economic output.

“In today’s economic climate, the employment market is even more competitive, and the skills that these young people learn now will help them safeguard their future careers, hopefully as tomorrow’s business leaders.”
