A GROUP of 24 young people from Brackaville, Donaghendry and Ballyclog Church of Ireland parishes had the prestigious honour at the weekend of being confirmed by The Most Reverend Alan Harper, Archbishop of Armagh, on what was his last official engagement before retiring next month.

During a ceremony at St Patrick’s Church, Ballyclog, the young people - from the Coalisland, Dungannon, Bush, Ballynakelly, Stewartstown and Curglassen areas - also received their First Holy Communion on Sunday afternoon.

The weekend was also a very special occasion for local parishioners as they welcomed former local Rector, The Very Reverend Kenneth Hall, now Dean of Clogher.

The Very Reverend Hall officially opened the new church hall at Ballyclog, which was dedicated by the Most Reverend Harper.

Reverend Andrew Rawding, Rector of the parishes of Brackaville, Donaghendry and Ballyclog, told the Tyrone Times there was a great deal of excitement prior to the weekend events.

Reverend Rawding said the opening of the new hall marked the unveiling of a completely new building which will accommodate more children for Sunday School events and will be used widely by the local community in the future.

“There has been a lot of work which has gone into refurbishing Ballyclog Hall and it will be great for people in the parish to welcome back the Very Reverend Hall again, so there is a general feeling of excitement in the area”, Reverend Rawding explained.
