Launch of book on Lough Neagh fishing communities

SATURDAY 15th December sees the launch of an impressive new book in Kinturk Cultural Centre.

The book launch will take place at 8.30pm. There will also a buffet, followed by traditional music to add flavour to the evening.

Everyone is invited to attend.

The book launch is the final event of a two-year heritage project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

The Heritage Lottery Fund were anxious that the heritage of the Lough Neagh fishing community should not be lost, and they have made possible what is now a unique and precious collection of interviews, documents, photographs, film footage and audio recordings.

The book ‘Memories of Lough Neagh’ chronicles the 300-year struggle of the fishing families to maintain their right to fish on the lough, in the face of oppression and persecution.

It also contains the personal reminiscences of many men and women from the loughshore.

Memories of Lough Neagh has 384 pages, 556 photos, and is available from Pat Grimes (phone 86737444); at Sheehy’s of Cookstown and most shops in the loughshore district, price £20.
