Local author visits ICD students

BEAM Creative Network in Donaghmore recently received funding from the DOE Road Safety Grants Programme to develop, write and pilot a play in relation to road safety and pedestrian safety in particular. Beam’s scriptwriter, local author, Fiona Cassidy visited the Integrated College Dungannon to ask students to assist with her research for the writing of the new play named “RESPECT”.

Working with Year 8 students, Fiona discussed with them their views and ideas of how young people perceive pedestrian road safety and the hazards associated with it.

“I was impressed by the enthusiasm of the Year 8 students and by their mature opinions and ideas. This was a very worthwhile visit and we hope to work with Integrated College Dungannon again in the near future”, said Fiona.

Fiona hopes to include the young people’s ideas in the writing of the “RESPECT” pilot which Beam Creative Network will tour in local schools early 2013.
