LOCAL people will gather this weekend to pay a special tribute to the work of a Ballygawley Missionary priest, who is preparing to return to West Africa.

A special farewell function has been organised to take place at Kelly’s Inn, Garvaghey, this Saturday evening, August 18.

Fr Leo Traynor, a member of St Patrick’s Missionary Society, has developed a Peace Building Programme for Young Adults which has been rolled out to a large number of young Nigerians over the past 10 years.

The vision of the programme is to engage young adults with life shaping issues, and assist them to make conscious choices on how they will live their lives in peace and make a positive impact within their community.

Fr Traynor has established a small team in Nigeria who help deliver the programme.

A night of chat, music and craic is guaranteed on Saturday, with Aghaloo Man, Martin McCarron, hosting the entertainment.

Martin hopes to put Fr Leo through his paces with a ‘Quick Fire Chat’ covering the life and times of the local priest with a few surprises along the way.

The evening will also include a final chance to see the All Ireland winning Errigal Ciaran novelty act, before music by Cascades rounds off the night.

Tickets, costing £7.50, are currently on sale at Pat Traynor Meats, Conor Quinn’s Mace, Quinn’s Butchers, and Kelly’s Inn.
