Mayoral reception for school choirs

The Mayor of Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council, Councillor Philem Gildernew held a reception for Aughnacloy and St Mary’s Primary Schools’ Choir who have recorded a CD for the Media Initiative for Children Respecting Difference Programme.

The Mayor presented the children with certificates from Early Years and congratulated the rural schools on the high standard of singing.

The choir which comprises of 17 children from each school has worked together to record 13 songs.

The CD will be used as part of the MIFC programme which addresses issues around racism, sectarianism, ethnicity, disability and bullying and promotes the development of emotional intelligence, encouraging young children to recognise and express their feelings in a fun way.

Suzette Erskine, Senior Early Years responded to the Mayor and thanked him for the hospitality bestowed upon the children and all those associated with the recording.

The programme was developed by Early Years, the Organisation for Young Children and funded by the International Fund for Ireland.
