Mellow Parenting and Mellow Babies
THE Southern Health and Social Care Trust has introduced the Mellow Parenting Programme.
Mellow Parenting is aimed at parents of the under fours, who are experiencing relationship problems with their children.
The fourteen week programme helps to build more positive parent , child relationships, improve the wellbeing of mothers and child behaviour and development.
Julie McConville, Head of Health Visiting for the Southern Trust says: “Mellow Parenting has shown to be effective in helping those parents who need extra support perhaps because of mental health issues, domestic violence in the home or if they have children with behavioural problems. The programme also gives parents the chance to get support from other parents and learn that they are not the only ones with questions or problems.”
Some parents who have participated said: “The most important thing I have learnt is not to be afraid to ask for help” and “I don’t get into battles, I’ve learnt from other mums to let the little things go.”
If you think you need this extra parenting support, please speak to your Health Visitor or Social Worker who can refer you to the Mellow Parenting Programme.
