Pomeroy Players to stage Tarry Flynn

POMEROY Players will be staging their latest production, Tarry Flynn, on Thursday 21, Friday 22 and Sunday 24 February at 8pm in St Mary’s Hall.
Adapted from the novel of the same name by the playwright Patrick Fallon, it is a semi-autobiographical account based on the life of Kavanagh as told through the musings of Tarry, a young farmer poet and his quest for big fields, young women and the meaning of life.
The play is a portrait of a mother and her children, including her only son, on whom she dotes and who is prone to rhapsodic flights and insights.
Tarry Flynn examines the great hungers of a society with a stifled need not only to be loved, but also to love.
As the hero, Tarry, struggles to find his right place in the world, we wonder if the appearance of a reprobate uncle could offer a chance of salvation from his fate.
Among the usual rural dilemmas of land, church and family loyalty there is much humour and pathos among the residents of Drumnay as they try to make sense of their life and the attack on a girl at their local crossroads.
The local theatrical group is hoping for as much support as possible as they embark on a six date tour of the festival circuit throughout March.
