Speakers’ Club toasts an international affair

COOKSTOWN Speakers’ Club met on Tuesday 4th September in Gortalowry House, Cookstown.

The night turned out to be an international affair with guests coming all the way from Australia to visit the club.

The Toastmaster for the evening was Michael who welcomed members, and guests. It was a full and entertaining programme:

Wordmaster – John

Poetmaster – John

Timekeeper – David

Tabletopics master – Michael

Speeches – Michael, Marion, & Ian, Chris

Evaluators – Norman, Mary & Marion

On the opening night of the new season, topics for the three speeches were as follows:

Michael gave an excellent display of “Interpretative Reading”

Marion presented an information speech “Working with Garden Moss”

Ian delivered an educational speech on “Leadership”

The club president Chris, gave an update on what had being going on over the summer and goals for the club in the new club year.

A short interval followed which provided an opportunity for socialising and enjoying some light refreshments.

Michael then hosted table topics with a number of people commenting on the chosen topics.
The meeting was rounded off with evaluations of the three speeches. Norman, Mary and Marion evaluated a speech each.

If you would like to improve your communication/listening skills, combat anxiety of public speaking, in a very inexpensive way why not come along to the next meeting held at 7.30pm on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month in Gortalowry House or alternatively contact Michael on 07872048818, for more information.

The club is holding an open night on Tuesday 18th September at 7:30 pm in Gortalowry House, Church Street, Cookstown where everyone is welcome to join us free of charge, so please come along and don’t miss out on the opportunity to enhance your public speaking skills in a relaxed friendly environment with likeminded people.
