Bog Snorkling Championships in aid of Cancer Choices
Cancer Choices & Greiner Packaging Staff promoting Mens Health Awareness Month
2012 will see many world-class sporting and cultural events taking place throughout Northern Ireland. We’ve got The Irish Open, The North-West 200, UK City of Culture, The Titanic centenary, even an exhibition featuring the works of the Great Master - Leonardo da Vinci.
But the Blue Ribbon event for Northern Ireland in 2012 will surely be the NI Bog-Snorkelling Championships and International Bog Day taking place in Peatlands Park, Dungannon on Sunday 29th July.
The Championships are a showcase of world class athletes at the summit of their powers. The unparalleled skill, stamina and endurance of the competitors will be a match for any Olympian heading for London - and that’s just the under 16’s!
The competition promises all the highs and lows we’ve come to expect from this International standard event. As usual, the rivalry will be fiercest in the Junior fancy dress fun run, with many of the competitors refusing to speak to journalists for fear of letting slip any advantage to their fellow bog-snorkelers.
The Relay section of the competition is also proving to be a cauldron of intense pressure and intrigue. Rumours have been circulating in recent weeks about a new set of flippers being used by one of the teams, which may be in conflict with the notoriously strict rules and regulations. This is against a backdrop of persistent gossip that many competitors have been using banned performance enhancers, namely bacon & egg sodas, in the build up to the event.
As we approach the championships, the public can be assured that there will be tons of activities on offer should the pressure-cooker atmosphere become too much.
There will be a superb Arts & Crafts Fair, Face painting, Storytelling and a DJ. Murphy the Donkey will be there to take the kids for trip through the park. There will be a fantastic Treasure Trail and, of course, the famous train rides around Peatlands.
The nominated charity for this year’s Championship is Dungannon based Cancer Choices. They have been supporting people affected by cancer since 2004 and Peatlands are delighted to be associated with them and their work in the local community.
So for anybody looking for a great family day out in beautiful natural surroundings, look no further than Peatlands Park on Sunday 29th July.
It will be a marvellous opportunity to witness the most unique of sports, often referred to as ‘The Craziest Sport in the World’, have a brilliant day out and support a hardworking local charity. We hope to see you there!
