It’s that time of year again, when the waft of good country music and the tantalising taste of a mighty barbeque combine to make Quinn’s Corner Annual Country Session and Barbeque a firm date in the calendar of local entertainment.

This years’ big night of craic will be on Wednesday August 29th and what a night it promises to be. For the past four years, this monthly “jam session” has become a big attraction in a quiet, unobtrusive way. It has been described as “Tyrone’s best kept musical secret” and “a dazzling display of skills by local musicians and singers and the continuously surprising array of talent which springs up from the audience on a regular basis.”

You never quite know who will turn up and everyone gets their chance to impress at the Quinn’s Corner Country Session!

However, there is a more serious side to the Annual Country Session...fundraising. As with the monthly sessions, musicians and singers perform in an entirely voluntary capacity, and the Quinn Family extend their warm hospitality at no charge...indeed they too always contribute to the totals received in voluntary donations, which are then forwarded to charitable organisations and deserving local causes.

Over the past twelve months donations to Marie Curie (£1,800) and The Michaela Foundation (£500) have been received by their representatives. On this occasion the charity of choice is the Southern Area Hospice Services.

Unfortunately, many of us know only too well how this wonderful service swings into action at difficult times, when family members are very ill. They help us shoulder unbearable burdens with their calm and assured approach. The Southern Area Hospice Services (SAHS) provides invaluable support and care to people living within the Southern Health Board Area, who are suffering from Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease and AIDS.

Their aim is to provide the best quality of life for patients and their families. All services are provided free of charge and the Southern Area Hospice relies heavily on voluntary donations because two thirds of their funding comes from donations….every penny counts!

The Quinn’s Corner Country Session and Barbeque 2012 will present an opportunity for local patrons to acknowledge this great institution, which is heavily dependent on public generosity.

So........if you are looking for a big night of country music and song, some lovely food and a great community atmosphere, this is the gig for you! Admission and barbeque are free of charge, but certainly, everyone will get their chance to contribute generously, when that fundraising bucket makes its way around!
