THE Ballyronan Festival of Lights 2012 was a roaring flame of success!

The magnificent illumination themed event drew crowds of people from across Northern Ireland. The Festival took place at Ballyronan Marina on Friday 24th August and had an impressive line up of activities throughout the evening including a live Q Radio road show, circus performers, and water-sports sessions; a spectacular fireworks display and bonfire lift from an Olympic Torch which was kindly on loan from Mr Patsy Forbes.

Boats travelled from all corners of the Lough adorned with lights, the dazzling display contributed to a buzzing atmosphere. The prize winners from the illuminated boat competition were:

1st Very Nauti, Paddy Quinn

2nd Mannan, Richard Kane

3rd Lady Zara, Trevor Hunter

The festival provided an opportunity for Lough Neagh Rescue to raise funds for the lifeboat rescue service on Lough Neagh. Lough Neagh Rescue is an independent charity run entirely by volunteers; they receive funding from the local councils but in order to maintain their equipment to the required standard, have to raise extensive funds themselves.

Lough Neagh Rescue would like to thank both the councils and the public for their generosity, without these donations it would not be possible to provide this essential life saving service to the Lough Neagh region.

The Lough Neagh Rescue Raft Race was sponsored by Forbes Spar, and health checks were offered to participants of the Watersports activities and raft race. Entrants to the raft race put in a huge effort to building their vessels, and whilst competition was mighty, all entrants were commended for their efforts.
