A COOKSTOWN man has went the extra mile for a local cancer charity by taking part in a Spanish half-marathon.

Paul McGurk, an Innovation Manager with Tennent’s NI, took part in the Half Marathon Challenge in Barcelona with the main objective to raise both donations and the profile of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Paul’s achievement was part of a two year fundraising campaign by Tennant’s NI campaign aiming to raise £50k for the charity.

The Cookstown man was one of the key fundraisers and was also supported by the staff and management of the Glenavon House Hotel who ran a “mega” table quiz for the cause.

The combined efforts raised a staggering £5000 towards supporting the company’s Macmillan Cancer fundraising campaign.

“I am really grateful for the donations and the fantastic support I received during my bid to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support - it is typical of County Tyrone’s generosity,” Paul said.

“Macmillan is a charity which instantly strikes a chord and we know the funds raised will go towards people and their families living in Northern Ireland that are affected by cancer to receive the help that they so desperately need and deserve.”
