Restaurants discover great new produce

LOCAL chefs, restaurateurs and food producers will gather today, Monday, in Loughry College to discover the best of local food produce and get inspiration on mouth watering new signature dish ideas.

The Local Food Sourcing workshop is being organised by Flavour of Tyrone on behalf of the Good Food Circle and is funded by Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council & by the European Regional Development Fund under the European Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland.

Jams, chutneys, ice cream, dairy, vegetables, salads, meat and delicious desserts will be on display to encourage chefs to continue to tantalize and satisfy your palate.

Paula Mc Intyre, BBC Radio Ulster and Chef Niall Mc Kenna. James Street South restaurant will deliver thought provoking talks promoting the use of local produce and encouraged those chefs present to be as innovative as possible in using the best, fresh local ingredients in their menus.

All Flavour of Tyrone Good Food Circle restaurants have been independently inspected and must carry a Flavour of Tyrone Signature dish on their menu. This workshop gave them an opportunity to explore the best local seasonal produce and ideas on how to use it throughout their menus.

Buying and sourcing local food is not only an important part of our economy but can add value to the tourism experience. With visitors increasingly interested in the definitive taste of a country it is hoped this Local Food Sourcing workshop will guide restaurateurs to use more and more of our wonderful local produce.

Delighted to be involved in the launch of the workshop, Mayor Cllr Phelim Gildernew stated:

Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council are delighted and proud to host this Local Food Sourcing Workshop with Flavour of Tyrone. It is important that we showcase our local food producers and provide them with a platform to promote themselves to local restaurants. I am sure workshop will boost business and continue to put the region on the food map.”
