THE motto in Sperrinview School is, “Where Pupils Come First”.

We view our greatest resource as the classroom, therapy and ancillary staff in the school, as well as the external professionals who have input to the pupils’ lives and education.

To that end, we began working towards external accreditation of the commitment to our people in September 2010, through Investors in People.

We received fabulous training and support on our journey from Ms Imelda McDaid, RTU, for which we are truly grateful.

On 22 June 2012, following a rigorous two-day assessment by Mr Eric Jenkinson, we were
informed that we had been successful.

Our final report stated some of the strengths of the school as follows:

n Very open and engaging culture with strong emphasis on friendship [reflecting and impacting on the children];

n Very good internal communications with people kept well informed on all aspects of the school;

n There is great inclusivity to learning and development at the school;

n There is a very strong family friendly culture at the school;

n Everyone believes in putting the children first.

n The report also declared: “It is obvious from the evidence gathered that the friendly and child focused culture is one of this school’s major strengths.”

Dr Stephen Farry, Minister for Employment and Learning, congratulated those receiving the Investors in People award at a celebration event held in Hillsborough Castle on 25 July, attended by Miss Jordan and Ms Walker.

The Minister stated: “The message you are sending out to businesses is clear – regardless of size, sector or location Investors in People presents all organisations with the opportunity to improve performance.”
