Sean is a swimwear winner in fitness modelling comp

A COOKSTOWN man said it felt like his dream came true when he was named the number one swimwear model in a male fitness competition.

Sean Cummings was given the accolade, alongside third place in the sports round of the Northern Ireland Fitness Modelling Association’s (NIFMA) competition at the La Mon hotel in Belfast last month.

The 23-year-old, who is well-known as a lifeguard at Cookstown Leisure Centre, received a trophy and vouchers as part of his prize in the over 21s section of the competition.

“It was a dream come true to win this competition,” said Sean. “It was almost like it wasn’t really happening.”

Sean said he has dedicated the past few years of his life to getting fit and readying himself for what will hopefully become a career in fitness modelling.

A typical day sees him get up at 5am to prepare food and he hits the gym twice a day as well as working in the leisure centre.

The routine also means he can’t live the life of most other 23-year-old men. “I can’t go out and have a social drink with my friends,” he said.

“And I save myself each week to go out for a meal as a treat. My daily diet consists of lots of protein and green vegetables.”

NIFMA founder Martin Spence said Sean has a lot of potential.

“I think Sean has a fantastic future in this industry, there is no doubt about that, “ he said. “He performed very well for a first time event. He came first in a very tough category with other very strong participants.”

The Cummings family added their support in light of Sean’s win.

“We would like to say a massive well done to Sean on this achievement,” they said. “He is a credit and his willingness to sacrifice his social life to achieve such tremendous results proves his dedication to win.

“As a family we are overwhelmed with pride. We will continue to offer Sean the support he needs to progress. Well done!”
