Investment in local engineering and manufacturing companies is paying rich dividends.

According to the latest unemployment figures Cookstown and Dungannon are among the top three in Northern Ireland in terms of highest reductions in the number of people claiming benefit.

Of those out of work 12 months ago, almost one in four have now secured employment in both areas.

A recruitment manager has reported unprecedented uptake in jobs locally, especially in the engineering, manufacturing and food industries.

This news comes on the back of substantial investments, in the past six months in particular, for local companies by overseas investors and the IDB.

Unemployment in Dungannon and Cookstown District Council areas has fallen dramatically.

The claimant rate in Cookstown has also taken a huge fall year on year.

Latest figures show that there are now 795 claimants in the district (513 males, 282 females). This represents a fall of 22.4% in the past year.

In Dungannon, the claimant count in the last twelve months has decreased by a staggering 22.3%.
