A Torrent councillor has called for the 40mph speed limit to be extended to include a nursery school in the Brocagh area.

SDLP representative for the area, Cllr Malachy Quinn, said he had been contacted about the issue by a number of parents and people living in the vicinity of Little Flower Nursery School.

The 40mph limit ends just 50 metres from the entrance to the school, according to Cllr Quinn.

He continued: “It seems very strange to me that we have a 40mph on the road but it doesn’t cover the school and it’s made worse by the fact the school is between two bad corners which would lower reaction time of drivers.”

Cllr Quinn said he hopes the PSNI and Transport NI will “see sense” on the issue in order to make it safer for children and parents using the school.
