James Henderson and Karen Boe, from the Cohannon Inn and Spar Shop selected Alzheimer’s Society as their Charity of the Year for 2014.

They placed collection tins on their service counters within the inn and in the shop to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society throughout the year.

Through the generous donations of their customers and employees the final total amounted to an amazing £4,000.

Assistant Manager, Margaret Somerville, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed our partnership with Alzheimer’s Society over the past year.

“Dementia is quite prevalent in our community and many of our staff and customers have experiences whereby their family members and friends have been affected by dementia.

“We found that people readily donate their change to Alzheimer’s Society because it affects so many and everyone wanted to help us raise funds and awareness for the charity.

“Alzheimer’s Society champions the rights of people living with dementia and the millions of people who care for them. I am very proud that the fundraising efforts by all of us here at The Cohannon Inn and Spar Shop will help make a real difference.”

Maeveen McNabb, Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society in South and West Northern Ireland added: “We are extremely grateful to James, Karen and their lovely staff for all the time and energy they have put into their fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society.

“To raise £4,000 with customers small change just goes to show that small change can really make a big difference.

“As a charity, we rely on the generosity of businesses like the Cohannon Inn and Spar Shop to help us support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.”
