Cookstown man Ryan Eastwood is in his final week of a six week challenge for Cancer Focus Northern Ireland.
Ryan has been undergoing an intense set of challenges over the six week period along with fifteen other people all to raise money for Cancer Focus.
Ryan told the MAIL, he was encouraged to do the challenge following a few setbacks with injuries on the rugby pitch: “After getting injured as Cookstown Rugby captain in the defeat to Ballyclare in the Ravenhill cup final in April 2012 I haven’t done much in terms of sport or exercise with numerous potential rugby comebacks curtailed due to ongoing persistent injuries.
“I then lost interest due to constant knock backs and pulled away from sport and regular exercise altogether concentrating on other things.”
Ryan said after seeing an unflattering photograph of himself in the New Year he decided he needed to do something, particularly as he is due to get married in December, “I wanted to get back into training but lacked the conviction and motivation without a purpose or goal to work towards. After a phone call to a friend who mentioned he had signed up for this challenge I decided this was exactly what I needed,”
Ryan continued: “It has been one of the best things I have done in my life. Special thanks must go to Emma McCann of Cancer Focus and Noel and Arlene at fit to function who have put in tremendous time and effort not only with us but on regular previous events as well! Last but not least I have been doing this with 15 other wonderful people. We as a group have formed a really close bond and I’m sure in the future we will do more events and stay as Clare would say Biffles!”
MD of The Strata Group where Ryan works has decided to give away a tonne of coal(worth up to possibly £300) for the cause. To be in with a chance of winning you have to do is either donate any amount to Ryan’s just giving page https://www.justgiving.com/Ryan-Eastwood or in person at the Strata office in Cookstown and they will be entered into a draw. Deadline for donations in person or online will be April 10.
