The countdown to the 2017 Rose of Tralee International Festival begins this week with the launch of the search for the Tyrone Rose.

The Tyrone Rose Selection takes place on Sunday, May 14, at Corick House hotel and Spa.

For current Tyrone Rose, Genevieve Scullion, her journey started last March at the Tyrone Selection, but her interest in the Festival began much earlier.

“I heard so many fond recollections from previous Roses and Rose Escorts who were part of the Festival in recent years and still had great connections and friendships continuing from their experience,” said the Killeeshill girl.

“When I attended the Festival in 2014 I knew the experience was something special and well worth doing.

“My sister-in-law Aisling was Fermanagh Rose in 2007. Her stories and friendships that have lasted over nine years were reason enough for me to apply. Entering the Tyrone Rose selection was a very exciting process and we had a great bonding experience together. The Rose that would represent our Tyrone Centre was going straight to Tralee to experience the whole Festival, and this year’s Rose will have the same experience; Rose Tour, Parades, Rose Ball, The Rose Hotel and The International Rose of Tralee Dome to name a few.

“It was humbling to be selected and represent each of the 2016 Tyrone Rose entrants and to have their support and friendship throughout the year as well.

“It didn’t take much persuasion for me to send in an application and for anyone interested in applying this year I definitely recommend doing so and you will not regret it,” added Genevieve, who works as a graphic designer and is also a talented musician.

Sixty-five Roses from Ireland and Irish communities around the globe will travel to Kerry for the seven-day festival, while the 2017 Rose of Tralee will be crowned live on RTÉ on Tuesday, August 22.

Whoever is picked as the 2017 Tyrone Rose will travel to Tralee in August to enjoy everything that Ireland’s flagship family festival has to offer – parades, gala functions, entertainment, televised Rose selection nights, a Rose Tour and much more. Corick House will also host an information night for all interested applicants on Wednesday, April 19 at 7.30pm. To find out more and apply, visit www.roseoftralee.ie. or 07884354029.
