Police are warning parents in Cookstown to keep an eye out for their children and know where they are at all times.

It follows an incident in the town at the weekend when the local Neighbourhood Police team seized a selection of alcohol from young people.

The Neighbourhood team have been actively trying to combat anti-social behaviour and are eager that parents play a role in tackling the problem.

“If they come into contact with police while under the influence and under the age of 18, there is every possibility they will have to attend an Alcohol Awareness Course as part of a Community Resolution,” said police spokesperson. “Worst case, they could end up in Youth Court potentially with a criminal record which could impact negatively on future job prospects and career choices.”

The officers have also taken part in a joint operation with our colleagues from DVA inspecting buses transporting young people to teenage events around the town.
