Dungannon’s District Judge John Meehan has given a 22-year-old man one month to complete outstanding community service for a disorderly behaviour offence, before sending him to jail.

Paul Denny was convicted of the offence in relation to an incident in Perry Street Dungannon when police stopped him with a traffic cone.

After telling the officer to “f**k off it’s my cone”, the court heard how Denny swore at police before adopting a fighting stance and striking an officer before adding: “Only having the craic lad.”

Before the court for sentencing, a probation report suggested Denny, from Ashley Gardens in Armagh was “unsuitable for community” service having completed only 43 hours of a 100 hour order.

Before giving him a second chance, Judge Meehan told him: “There is no medical excuse for getting paralytically drunk.”
