An East Tyrone man who has been accused of 15 counts of sexual assault against five children, is due back in court on January 12.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was convicted of one charge of indecent assault against a female child at Dungannon Crown Court on Friday

[December 18].

But the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the other 14 allegations against him and as a result the case against him was adjourned until January.

A spokesperson for the court told the Mail this means there was a hung jury.

The offences were reported to have taken place between November 1965 and October 1978, and were allegedly committed against three girls and two boys, four of whom are brothers

and sisters.

The defendant is denying the charges, which were said to have involved children all under the age of 16.
