Masked men in late-night slegdehammer attack on Mid Ulster home

Detectives in Cookstown are appealing for witnesses after three masked men tried to break down the door of a home with a sledgehammer.

The incident, on Macknagh Road, Upperlands, is understood to have taken place on Sunday, August 9 at around 11.15pm.

The culprits are thought to have arrived on foot - but may have come from a car parked near to the Kilrea Road Junction.

Detective Inspector Will Tate said: “Three masked males, one armed with a sledgehammer, forced their way into a residential premises.

“It is thought that they approached the property on foot, but may have had a vehicle parked close by, near to the junction with Kilrea Road.

“There are no reports of any injuries, however a door was damaged during the incident. If you can help Police with their enquiries please call the 101 number, quoting reference number 13909815.
