A Dungannon barman has been banned from driving for a year and a half after failing to provide a breath sample to police.

The court heard how police received information about a possible drunk driver which led them to an address in Dungannon on June 5 at 8.15am.

A woman answered the door and told police she was not aware who had been driving a car parked outside.

She showed police into another room where her son, John Paul Donnelly, 31, from Castleview Heights, was sleeping.

Despite prompting, he refused to provide a sample at the police station.

“Had he co-operated he might not have found himself here (in court),” Mr Noel Dillon, defending, said. “It was very foolish,” he stated, adding that it would make getting to his job difficult.

District Judge John Meehan handed down a fine of £200 and driving ban of 18 months.
