Warning amid bogus call reports

THE Neighbourhood Policing Team in Beragh is trying to establish the circumstances around reports of bogus callers operating in the area.

Third-hand information has come in about bogus callers at homes in the Sixmilecross and Beragh areas last week, but no direct reports have been made to police.

“If you had any callers at your home who were not fro the organisation they said they represented, please let us know. Similarly, if you now of a neighbour or relative who was approached, please speak to them and encourage them to get in touch with us,” said a spokesman for the NPT. The number to call is 0845 600 8000.

Most callers to home are genuine, but, sadly, some criminals do prey on vulnerable people by using false pretences to gain access their homes.

Police advise that householders should never allow strangers in, but should always ask for identification. If still in doubt, they can call Quickcheck on 0800 013 2290. This is a 24-hour services that can contact official organisations to establish the bone fides of callers.
