150 hours of community service
A COOKSTOWN man has been sentenced to 150 hours of community service after he was convicted of assaulting two police officers.
East Tyrone Magistrate’s Court heard how a large group of people were fighting in Molesworth Street on November 25 last year when Adam Lee McVeigh, 19, of Keenaghan Road near Pomeroy, became abusive towards police.
He attempted to barge past the officers and subsequently punched and kicked two officers, though inflicted no long term injury.
He was also found guilty of disorderly behaviour and resisting police.
Mr Jason McLernon told the court that his client’s actions were “drink-fueled” and that Mr McVeigh accepted that he had a problem with alcohol.
Handing down a community service order and a compensation order of £100, District Judge John Meehan told the defendant that if he continued with “wild, drunken, riotous behaviour” he would end up in prison.
An offender’s levy of £15 was also imposed.
