PUPILS and staff at St Patrick’s College in Dungannon were given the privilege of welcoming one of Ireland’s best known writers, Colin Bateman, to the school to celebrate World Book Day.
Colin is the award-winning author of more than 30 novels, including Divorcing Jack and Belfast Confidential.
He also has written extensively for film and television, including the hit BBC series Murphy’s Law and the current TG4 series Scúp.
Colin gave an inspiring talk to the Year 8 pupils in the college library about reading and his background in journalism, and described his early influences such as Marvel Comics and The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Colin read an extract from his novel Running With the Reservoir Pups, and then answered questions from pupils such as:
What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
How do you deal with writer’s block?
What difference is there between writing books and writing for film or TV?
Do you have a favourite bookshop?
Colin signed copies of his books for pupils and staff to round off a successful World Book Day event in St Patrick’s College Library.
