Broadband in rural areas

SINN Fein Councillor Joe O’Neill attended a seminar about Broadband on Thursday night in the South west regional college and met with representatives of Broadband providers to discuss Broadband for rural areas in the Dungannon Borough.

There were residents in attendance who are put at a severe disadvantage through the lack of broadband provision and the high cost of provision in some rural areas.

Mr O’Neill stated: “It is not good enough in this day and age that rural residents and businesses are being put at a distinct disadvantage due to poor broadband provision. Equality is at the core of this argument those who live in our rural communities are entitled to the same quality of provision at the same cost as those in urban areas.

Sinn Fein Councillors, MLA’s and Ministers have been working together to address this issue over the past number of years and we will continue to do so.

It is essential that this is properly addressed in order to sustain rural businesses and communities”.
