Canal Group welcomes new members

COALISLAND Canal Group welcomed five new members following its AGM on Tuesday night last, February 12.

Vice Chairman of the Group, James Walshe, said the meeting had been successful and well attended.

Mr Walshe continued: “There was a lot of enthusiasm at the meeting about what can be done to continue our work over the next year, including dealing with overhanging branches and debris along the canal.

“To this end, we will work with conservation volunteers to clear the hogweed, which is the most dangerous of these invasive species, and work along with Dungannon Council also to remove that.

“Hogweed can be very dangerous for children especially, and can give third degree burns.”
