Civil servant was speeding on M1
A BALLYGAWLEY man who was detected by police travelling on the M1 motorway in excess of the speed limit has been fined £105 and had his licence endorsed with penalty points.
The court was told that Trevor Lockhart, 57, of Dergenagh Road, passed a police patrol car travelling at a speed which they estimated to have been between 90 and 100mph on July 6th.
A prosecution solicitor told the court that when stopped, Mr Lockhart asked a police officer, “Is there any way we can deal with this, I’m a civil servant?”
Representing himself, Mr Lockhart told the court that he was reluctantly accepting the charges.
He told the court that he had a clear driving record of over 40 years and that he would have driven more than 20,000 miles a year during this time.
District Judge, John Meehan, fined Lockhart £90 for speeding and endorsed his licence with three penalty points.
He was also required to pay the £15 offenders’ levy.
