Clonoe relatives seek truth over ambush

RELATIVES of FOUR IRA Volunteers killed in Clonoe by the SAS have come together to launch a campaign for an inquest. This group, Clonoe Families for Truth commissioned Relatives for Justice to compile a report on the killings.

This report Ambush, Assassination and Impunity details the events at Clonoe in February 1992, when Peter Clancy, Kevin Barry O’Donnell, Sean O’Farrell and Patrick Vincent were shot dead.

The report tells about the families’ long struggle to seek the truth about the ambush.

“Twenty years after Peter, Barry, Sean and Patrick were slain we are no nearer to the truth. The system has failed us. We have many unanswered questions about the deaths of our loved ones. We have faced perfunctory investigative procedures in which the state determined that none of those responsible for the ambush and assassinations would face charges. This decision was made well in advance of the public prosecutor being in possession of all the material evidence and statements.

“We have had no inquest as this has been postponed for the last twenty years with delay, prevarication and refusal to provide evidence to the coroner’s court by the authorities.

It is important to us that the people in our community know the truth about shoot-to-kill. We are in the process of planning a public launch but we need to raise funds to publish the report”
