Community stunned by sudden death of loved young man

THE sudden death of a young Dungannon man on the day before New Year’s Eve, has stunned the local community and left his family members and many friends grief stricken.

The body of Les Beattie, who was 26 and from the Tamnamore Road area near the Birches, was discovered on Sunday afternoon.

Police, who attended the scene, said they were not treating Mr Beattie’s death as suspicious.

The popular young man, a member of a well respected local family, was a clay pigeon shooting enthusiast.

It is understood he and his fiancee Lynsey Woods were planning to marry next summer.

Survived by his parents Roy and Hilda, and siblings Royanne, Hayley, Joel and James, Les’ love for his future wife was evident from his Facebook page, on which he posted a seasonal photograph of her in the kitchen with the caption: “Happy Christmas everybody. Miss Woods is cooking the turkey!”

Around 800 mourners - from all aspects of his life - attended Mr Beattie’s funeral at Annaghmore Church of Ireland on Wednesday where the Reverend Dorothy McVeigh conducted the service.

Les enjoyed shooting at Annaloiste Clay Pigeon Shooting Complex and worked for the family car repair business, Beattie Auto Repairs.

Mr Beattie’s death is also mourned by his brothers-in-law Bryan and Darren, sisters-in-law Charlene and Lauren, and nieces and nephews Jamie, Grace, Sophie and Thomas Isaac.

Following the funeral service, Mr Beattie was laid to rest in Annaghmore Parish churchyard.
