Could you provide a foster home for a child with disabilities?

THE Southern Health and Social Care Trust is seeking experienced carers who are willing to offer placements to children and young people with disabilities.

Martin McGrath, Head of the Trust’s Family Placement Service says: “We are always recruiting foster carers for young people who are unable to live with their own families as a result of family breakdown, relationship difficulties, neglect, abuse or parental ill health.

“But at present, we are making a particular appeal for people who would be willing to care for children who may have additional needs due to a physical or learning disability. So if you feel you have the confidence and skills to provide such a placement, we would be very interested in hearing from you.”

Carers will be required to have experience and understanding of the needs of children and young people who have learning or physical disabilities. A comprehensive support package is available tailored to meet the needs of the young person and carer and may include: training; medical, psychological and social work support; educational support; respite provision; and a financial package.

An information evening will take place on Wednesday 27 February at the Oakridge Social Education Centre, Coalisland Road, Dungannon from 5.30 – 8.00 pm.
