Council lend their support to proposed A5 road

DUNGANNON and South Tyrone Borough Council have lent their support to plans to upgrade the road between Aughnacloy and Omagh via Ballygawley at a recent Strategic Development Committee meeting.

During the meeting Acting Chief Executive Iain Frazer outlined a recent Joint-Oireachtas Committee meeting which he had attended along with the Mayor.

During the Dublin meeting a joint presentation was made in an attempt to win corporate support for the project.

Councillor Anthony McGonnell, chairing the meeting drew comparisons between the project and the upgraded A4 carriageway between Dungannon and Ballygawley.

He added that for the purposes of improving road safety alone the project should be supported.

The committee recommended to the full council that approval to support the A5 project be granted.
